The detached garage that had settled 40mm
A homeowner in Bromley contacted us about the asbestos cement roof on their detached garage. The garage was at the bottom of a sloping garden, and the roof had been deteriorating for several years. They wanted the asbestos removed and a new roof installed.
When we visited, we checked the base slab and found it had settled approximately 40mm at the rear corner — the lowest point of the slope. The settlement had cracked the base along a diagonal line, and water had been pooling in the corner for years. The drainage channel at the rear of the garage had become blocked with debris and was no longer functioning.
We quoted for the complete job: asbestos cement removal, waste disposal, base slab break-out and replacement with improved drainage, and GRP roof installation. The drainage work added to the cost, but without it the new roof would have faced the same water pooling problem within a few years.
